Club Business
Steve Seymour is moving out of state in the near future and has to step down as the Librarian. Jesse Livingston volunteered to be the new Librarian and was elected to the position. The updated list of DYS club elected officers for 2013 include:
    *President: Gene Nelson
    *Veep: James Lutgring
    *Treasurer: Zeke Bossley
    *Secretary: Jim Cox
    *Librarian: Jesse Livingston
    *Sgt. at Arms: Sarah Granger
    *Event Coordinator: Chris Richard

DYS hosted a successful Mead Day last Saturday (August 3rd) at Freetown Studios. Several local homebrewers and beekeepers donated equipment and materials to make more than 30 gallons of mead. We shared and sampled different types of homebrewed and commercially produced alcoholic honey based beverages and food. We are looking for several empty 6-gallon carboys to age the mead in, once fermentation is complete. In about 6 months, we will be hosting another event (bottling party) to bottle the mead (follow the forum thread Mead Day).

ACA is hosting Gulf Brew on October 19, 2013, the same weekend as the Dixie Cup. triple-oh_6 (James) and Brewmeis (Chris) are heading up and organizing DYS's participation at Gulf Brew. They are looking for homebrew and volunteers to set up the club table and serve beer. Additionally, ACA is going to provide us with several servers. Contact Chris if you are interested in volunteering at the club's table for Gulf Brew. You will receive free entry into the event if you donate beer and / or volunteer to help at the DYS table. There is a thread on the forum for Q&A at - Gulf Brew.

Cajun Brewing has some individual 0.5 and 1 lb sacks of German Hallentau hops to give away. Details can be found on the DYS Forum.

Other Business
Roberts Cove Germanfest is happening this October 5 and 6, 2013. The Germanfest Homebrew Comp details: Germanfest Homebrew Comp; Entry Deadline: September 16, 2013; Judging: September 21st and may be the following weekend (September 27th to 28th) depending on the entries. Individuals should think about participating at the competition with judging and stewarding (September 21). Stewarding allows an individual to learn the competition process, and you do not need to be a registered BJCP judge or have any judging experience to steward. We can get entries together as a group or individually and drop them off at the provide shipping address (their website), instead of packaging and mailing. Additionally, they are asking those with a 2.5-gallon kegs (or more) of their entry to donate it, and they are doing a People's Choice Award during Roberts Cove Germanfest. Q&A can be forwarded to Roberts Cove Germanfest and club related at forum thread.

Dixie Cup Entry Deadline (early): September 20; 2013, Entry Deadline (late): September 27, 2013; Event: October 17-19, 2013. I'm going to enter a couple and if others are going to enter, we should try to get together and drop them off instead of mailing. Q&A and more info can be found on the forum.

Presentation
Yeastmeister did a presentation on Pumpkin Ale with a recipe on the forum under the members recipes. Club tradition is to do a People's Choice Award for the best Pumpkin Ale during the Learn to Homebrew Day (November 2, 2013) at Marcello’s. So, start thinking about brewing your Pumpkin Ale, once pie pumpkins come available (September) or use canned pumpkin (beware of the spiced canned pumpkin and stuck mashes).

Style of the Month
Jimboud presented on Category 5. Bock.
Marcello’s provided the following beers:

Covington Brewhouse - Bayou Bock (5A. Maibock/Helles Bock)
Sierra Nevada - Glissade Golden Bock (5A. Maibock/Helles Bock)
Paulaner Brauerei - Salvator Doppel Bock (5C. Doppelbock)
Samuel Adams - Double Bock (5C. Doppelbock)

Yeastmeister shared:
New Belgium - Pumpkick (21A. Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer)

Jimmiec shared:
Bell's Brewery - Oberon Ale (6D. American Wheat or Rye Beer)
Southern Tier Brewing Company - 2XIPA (14C. Imperial IPA)
Elevator Brewery & Draught Haus - Three Frogs IPA (14B. American IPA)

Descriptions of all the BJCP beer styles can be found on the BJCP website.

Homebrew Served
Dopplebock, Bohemian Lager, and American Pilsner.
