I'm thinking about brewing this Saturday 10 gallons of no sparge Altbier. It looks like I'm going to use 2 mash tuns and will need to work out the recipe and volumes tonight. I'll post it later. Anyone is welcome and will be get started around noon. Just PM if you need the address.

If interested we could do another practice judging session and I can print out the guidelines and score sheets. If anyone want to bring some homebrew we could try filling out score sheets for it too. However, I don't think sdspespo1 can make till after 2 pm (if he can come) and would like to hold the practice session until then.

Based on the No Sparge Recipe Calculator (based on Palmer's forumla), I scaled-up each of the grains by 1.27.

The original recipe is a 1.053, so I'm thinking 1.015 will be left in each of the mash tuns. I guess I could combine these into one with some additional Marris Otter to make 5 gallons of Pale Ale, Mild, or something.

I think we'll be there.

I would hop it harder. Dusseldorf is supposed to be pretty bitter, after a long lagering.

I'm not sure why Beersmith calculates the IBUs lower with the higher OG. I'm hoping my OG comes in around 1.053 and beersmith claims the IBU will be 44 (original recipe).

Englishbrew, what was your IBU last weekend?

Also, planning on mashing with the normal grain to water ratio and adding the extra water before mashing out and recirculate.

Higher gravity beers have lower hop utilization. That's why the discrepancy.
