Homemade Brewing Software

Postby GuitarLord5000 » Wed Jul 09, 2008 10:17 pm

Hey Folks,

I know that most of you already have either Beersmith or Promash, but I remember there being some talk a while back about someone needing some software. Well, I've been working on a Microsoft Excel based brewing spreadsheet for a home brewing forum that I frequent. I'm in the process of bug checking it right now, and waiting on a few responses to see what else folks would like to see added to it.
Once it's done, if anyone would like it, I'd be happy to send it to you. Also, Gene, if you'd like to archive it somewhere for future deadyeast members to download later, that would be cool too. I probably still have a few months of tweaking left to do, but the program is pretty nice right now. If anybody is interested in bug checking it, please let me know.

Cheers
Dave

If it's Mac compatible (older Mac, won't run Windows) I'd love to try it out.

Aleguy,

I know that there is an Excel for Mac ( http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/E ... ng_charts/ ), but I'm unsure if a spreadsheet made on Windows Excel would be compatible with Mac Excel. If you have Excel for Mac and would like to give it a try, I'd be happy to send it your way. Just PM me your email address.

Alms66, PM me your email address, and I'll send it to ya.

Cheers
Dave

I changed the forum permissions, you should be able to attach a file to your post. The forum limits its size to 1MB. If its bigger than that, you can try to archive it in zip format to get it smaller, or if need be, send me a copy, and I will post it.

Sent!

Yeastmeister,
The file size is a little over 1 meg right now. Once the program is fully competed, it might weigh in at 1.5 or 2 meg. I'll see about zipping and posting the file then.

Aleguy and Alms,
What do you guys think of it right now? I really need a bit of feedback from experienced brewers in order to get this finished up. I'd appreciate hearing about any bugs you find, as well as personal complaints or compliments regarding the program.

Aleguy,
Were you able to get the program running on your mac?

Thanks guys.

Cheers
Dave

If you sent it to my e-mail, I never got it. Maybe there's some reason, yahoo blocked it or something?

Hey Aleguy,

I have re-sent the file. Please let me know if you have received it. If you did not receive either of them, then Yahoo might be directing my email directly to your spam folder for some reason. If it's not going to your spam folder, then I have no idea what could be happening, as it seems to be sending fine on my end.

Alms and semaj,
Have you guys received the file? If so, perhaps you guys could either try sending it to aleguy, or perhaps just put it on disk and give it to him at the next meeting?
Let me know.

Cheers

Thanks man.

Aleguy, PM me your email if you still haven't recieved the file and I'll try.
If that doesn't work I'll put in on disk.

hey, I got it this time. I haven't tried it yet. I probably won't be brewing anything until some time next month, but I'll open it up and see what it's about as soon as I can find some time.

I got it and toyed with it some. It looks pretty solid. I haven't noticed any problems yet.
