Beers in Thailand

Postby Imakewort » Thu Jun 16, 2011 10:13 pm

So far the variety is sort of limited here at least on draft, they have the usual beers Guinness and some German lagers. And my favorite so far the local Thai beer Chang a very good easy drinking strong lager, have to careful with that one as it will creep up on you and your drunk before you want to be. I plan on doing a lot more research and posting some pictures soon.

I heard they make different local beers with cobra venom and opium in them. Be careful, you might not pass your next drug screening if you get some opium beer!

My friends who used to work the Alaskan Salmon fisheries in the summer and spend Winters in Thailand told me about them. As I understand it, you have to get pretty deep into the hill country to find them. When the hotel concierge offers you marijuana and magic mushrooms, then you know you're getting close.

It has been years since I've been to Thailand. However, one place I went to that had a brewery was the Hilton in Hau Hin, which is a short ride south of Bangkok. I called the hotel and they will arrange for a local to come pick you up in Bangkok. Much cheaper to arrange yourself on the streets but. It looks like the brewery is still there. I remember it serving German style beers, imagine that.

Of coarse right next to the Hilton was a small hotel like place that had family style hut for much cheaper. I would go there next time.

I have been working real hard researching beers made in Thailand and have had lots of help from the local indigenous people and have a nice report along with pictures and will file it as soon as i figure out how to upload them from my mac on Iphoto, can not seem to find them when trying to download them.
