Quick question for those more involved with wine than I: Do melomels age well?
I know that standard meads continue to improve for decades in the bottle. I also know that fruit wines are usually at their best in 20 years or less, and after that they start to deteriorate. So, Melomels? Do they behave like meads or wines with respect to aging?

Well, considering melomel and wine are very similar, so I'd say they age very similar. I know the best wine makers in the wine club typically bulk age. They leave the wines after the final racking in the carboys for years. I've seen a garage full of dozens of carboys that the winemaker blends together to get what he wants. He wins lots of competitions, so it must be working.

Yeah, I'm not reallyinto it that much. I guess a melomel would be good in the bottle for 20 years or less then. Too bad. I'll have to go back and read the opening section of meadmaker again and see what it says, but my cunning plan to stockpile melomels will have to be rethunk.
