What can you use in place of keg lube.

Looks like the general consensus there is :

Never tried it however, but it seems reasonable. Whatever you do stay away from anything petroleum based. Does real nasty things to rubber gaskets.

Is the lube just to keep the rubber
gasket sticky and help seal?
