Postby beouf » Fri Apr 09, 2010 1:59 pm

has anyone been able to reuse these 5L drought kegs with their own beer? i was given a BeerTender and was wondering if i would be able to drink my own beer out of it, or if i'm stuck with heineken coming out of that spout....

I know someone makes kits that allow you to re-use them, or least they used to. I don't know where to get them though. I'll try to remember to look it up in one of my home brew books that deals with building equipment. (The title escapes me at the moment.)

One guy that visited the club for a while was using Bittburger 5L mini-kegs, so I bought a Heineken 5L thinking it was the same.

When I finally finished the mini-keg (WTF are those people making these days?) I took it apart, and was disagreeably surprised to find that it had this "thing" in it. You can see the dissection at:

I was not able to find a mini-keg that didn't have some contraption in it or on it (Bittburger has a mini tap on the side), so I scrapped that idea.

Hmmm. Maybe I'll have to find a mini keg of bitburger....
Don't guess you've written up the how to on that yet?

Anyone know if Marcellos has Bitburger mini kegs?

Cheers,
Dave

Seriously. Just buy a 2 1/2-gallon keg if you want something portable. Or you can go with Quoin party pigs, though I don't want to recommend them, there's always at least one last glass of beer stuck in them that you can't get out without taking the pig apart.
