bourbon barrel beer without the barrel...

Just got an email, thought this new item was interesting.

Only thing is they label it as whiskey, not bourbon.

Have bought the Jack Danial chips and dont remember much whiskey smell to them. Probably not the same.

i always wanted to try making a bourbon barrel style beer using the Jack Daniel chips but I agree with jimmiec about the lack of whiskey smell, so you would probably have to add some to get the flavor your after

Straight from the page:
Whiskey barrel oak chips are light in color with a strong whiskey aroma. They will provide a whiskey and oak flavor. We recommend 2.5 oz per 5 gallons of beer.

I have used the Jack Daniels chips on the pit and gotten a strong Bourbon smell and flavor. I doubt they're repackaging them, though, because the ones from Austin are medium toast and the Jack Daniels are heavy toast on the "inside."
