If you increase the base malt to increase the alcohol (such as for an imperial), would you increase the IBU as well to have a balance between the the malt and bitterness?

May be not really an imperial, I want to make a mild this weekend (since I have all the ingredients to) but don't want to make a beer with only 3 % ABV. I thought I would increase the base malt (a little) to increase the alcohol to get up tp at least 6 % ABV. I planned on not increasing the specialty malts.

Thanks.

That should work fine for a mild. I would increase the hops by around 25% and mash about 2 degrees lower to ensure the proper levels of non-fermentables in your wort.

I think it should be done three degrees lower. Just my opinion.
