Wine barrels

Postby aleguy » Tue Aug 04, 2009 2:06 pm

Anyone have any leads on good deals for used white wine barrels? Some punk claimed he could get a Tabasco barrel, but it never happened. I would like to get a white wine barrel to use for Belgian sours, best if it were club property, but I am willing to split it with a few others instead.
If no one else is interested, I'll go it alone. Ahh, how would I drink 55 gallons of Flanders Red all by myself?

Pontchartrain Vineyards - give these guys a call and see if they might have any they would sell. They are over by Covington. Didn't see if they age any of their whites in oak, but most do. They might be agreeable if they knew it is for a club. 985-892-9742

Might be interesting, but not for sours. Also, I've read bad things about reconditioned barrels, which they would almost have to be if they used them over for reds.

tabasco barrels

Postby gordonbl » Mon Aug 10, 2009 2:54 am

Redtail several people have offered to anti up. 5 gallons, 50 bottles is not too much even if the batch turns out a bit hot. I'm still in for the 40 dollar barrel anti and the 5 gallon anti for the beer batch. I'm guessing others would still be interested! This seems to be an idea that never got off the runway! Maybe if cash was put on the line this barrel might fly! Might be fun to see. This large of a batch, Gene might be the only one that has the gear to do it. Sorry Gene if I'm out of line but if this would happen I would have to go to your house and help as much as I could and see how this would go down.
