I agree with Mob. Basically, unless you want a nationally recognized award-winning beer, or you want to do Bohemian Pilseners, a standard carbon filter is adequate. Get the "whole house" kind and run your brewing water through it as slowly as you can stand to increase contact time. It will take out some hardness as well as chlorine, etc.
Never trust a skinny chef, a sober brewer, or a cat with thumbs!
