Just use regular oatmeal. The instant is ground up finer so it will cook faster.

"Rolled and flaked oats have had their starches gelatinized (made soluble) by heat and pressure, and are most readily available as "Instant Oatmeal" in the grocery store. Whole oats and "Old Fashioned Rolled Oats" have not had the degree of gelatinization that Instant have had and must be cooked before adding to the mash. "Quick" oatmeal has had a degree of gelatinization but does benefit from being cooked before adding to the mash. Cook according to the directions on the box (but add more water) to ensure that the starches will be fully utilized." John Palmer

I've got my brewstand running like never before.
It took a lot of work but man do those jets burn nice now.
No more of this

Hoping it will cut down on the soot as well.

Looking forward to Saturday.

If the flames burn clean there shouldn't be any soot at all. Now we just need to get you to find the time to use it!

Unfortunately, I forgot the thing was this Saturday and made other, unbreakable plans, so I won't be attending this time. I did, however get a few guys from work interested in the event, so hopefully they all show up (5 total - plus 2 wives, who might also decide to attend).

You can delete all you want, but I still know what you wrote about the club opener and I'm holding you to it. Yeah so I won. 8) It was pure raw brewing talent. I can't help that. I'm not in this to win and you can't make me! :?

That delete button only allows you to delete your own posts. Our Commander In Yeast is using it for very Orwellian purposes. I say we find another way to choose the club opener if the second place finisher isn't him. I was exempted originally. Yeasty went back and deleted that AFTER I won. (He took second place and would have to be club opener by the original rules.)

Actually, I didn't edit or delete anything, I was just yanking your chain yesterday. But read my unedited post from the first page...

"Yep, thats the day of our official club only competition. Bring your IIPA to be judged. Braggin rights are on the line here folks. If aleguy gets his way, the winner gets to be "official opener" for the next year (unless he wins of course)."

Read the last sentence again. You got your way, the winner of the comp is the new "official opener".

You forgot your parenthetical statement (unless he wins of course.)

I didn't know you could tell the difference! Anyway, it's your brew stand I'm worried about. That is truly evil! I think it may be possessed by a fire daemon. You really need to wrestle the evil out of that thing. :?
Every time I go near that thing, I walk away looking like a Welsh coal miner at the end of his shift. :x
