Gulf Brew 2008 - Date set: July 19th, 2008

As you probably know, the Dead Yeast Society was asked to participate in the Gulf Brew to benefit the Acadiana Center for the Arts in 2007. The event was an amazing success. Lots of fun for all, and people really enjoyed our brews. Check here for the pics from last year!

We've been asked to participate again for 2008! The date will be July 19th from 4-10 p.m. As a group, we provided 20 gallons of brew last year, and the entire event sold out in about 3 hours.

We don't know any details yet, the event coordinator promices to let us know much sooner than last year so that we can be better prepared.

If your interested in participating, we have a couple of ways that you can:
Brewing some beer to dispense
Volunteering to man the serving table

Last year we got a limited number of passes to the event. These will be limited to those that are working the event or brew beer for the event.

Were looking for a number of folks to run shifts at the serving table.

If your interested in more information (I don't have any additional at the moment), want to volunteer to brew, or work the table, drop me a line.

This is a great opportunity to get folks introduced to homebrewing, last year we got several new folks interested in brewing. Its also a good way to show off your brewing skills.

I think we shoulder do group brews. I'm willing to help brew.
And ask my wife if she will help serve.

I definitely want to be a part of this. I had a great time last year. I'll volunteer to pour, as well as contribute some brew.
I also agree w/ Red that we do should do 1 or 2 club brews. Maybe we can get some promotion for Marcello's and they can donate some ingredients.

I already talked to Keven, Marcello's will donate indigents for a club brew, I want to make a 10 gallon brew, I have a 10 gallon fermentation tank we can use, we can vote on what to brew but I want a good strong beer like a Belgian triple. I will also need some commitments from members on what they will bring and who will volunteer, we are also making a beer dispenser for the event thanks to Zeke, and hopefully we will have club t shirts by then.

too soon to say if I'll be brewing for the event yet, but you can definitely count me in to pull a shift at the table.

Is it too soon to be thinking about some kind of schedule for serving? It would also be nice to nail down the pre-tasting. Are we meeting at Igor's, is there enough cooler space to handle everything, or are we doing it at Marcello's? Kevin said he already brought in a keg of apricot wheat. Is there a standard for keg type? I have pin-lock kegs, do I need to transfer to a ball-lock, or will both type be accommodated? All my pin-lock fittings are on back-order and I don't know if I'll be able to pull everything together in time.

Damn, that's a lot of questions.

I also have a few pin locks, I have 2 sets of fittings.
Come to think of it, the kegs I'll be using for Gulf Brew will be ball lock.
I guess it all depends on how many taps we're running at once.
Zeke was planning on building something that we could dispence 10 or more at a time.
I'm sure we can cover all this Tuesday.

I have 5 gallons of amber fermenting, should be done with primary early next week. If anybody is able to loan me a keg in the next week I'll happily donate the beer to Gulf Brew.

My few kegs will also be full. I suffered a small miscalculation on the calendar. For some reason I thought gulf brew was in June, and I've been in a panic trying to get my keg system up and running. I'm also wondering if my ales will be any good by the time gulf brew rolls around. I've never had any sit around that long. It's usually all gone four weeks from brew day.
Anyway you might ask Igor and the Yeastmeister about kegs. They have more kegs than anyone, but they also brew more than anyone I've heard of.

Ok, looks like its up to me. I'll get you one. Drop me an email to discuss the transfer. Almost all of mine are full as well. I have 20 gallons for the gulf brew already.

As far as aging goes....if they are carbonated and ready to drink, drop them off over at marcellos. Kevin has granted us space in the walk in fridge to use. 37F will keep them good till the event. Kegs only, no co2, no nozzles. We want full kegs by the time of the event.
