Ewww....Specialty Beer. While I like some of them, its a wide open catagory. I like 0006's VBIP, but there are honestly lots of crap beers that fall into that category (Anchovy and Cow Brains Porter? Sure, specialty beer......see what I mean?)

Sorry, I forget that sarcasm doesn't come through very well in print.

I was just trying to point out that maybe drawing from a hat is a little russian roulette-ish.

Just sayin'

I think it will be alright if we just set some ground rules first. No lagers, no aged beers, etc. as far as specialty beers go, well, bring 'em on! I don'thave to judge them, so who cares what else is entered. I might even come up with some pig placenta porter myself.

Technically, if we include specialty, then any beer can be entered in that category, even if its not special. The rules are so lax that a belgian wit, hefeweizen, or barleywine all still fit into the category.

I either want distinct categories, or none at all. i.e. Either we pick something to make, or just tell everyone to enter their best beer.

Whats your problem with aging? Or are you implying that it needs to be brewed specifically for this competition? So its got to be new? As far as I'm concerned, that cuts out just about everything except for a hefe. I let almost everything age at least 6 months before I drink it. I believe thats a lot of peoples problems. Most people try and drink it too soon. But then again, thats why I brew as much as I do. So I can have a supply.

I have nothing against aged beers, per se. I'm just saying that we should avoid style that REQUIRE aging, Alts, barleywines, guezes, etc. It would be nice if we had categories that could be brewed up two or three weeks before the entry deadline.

+1 on Russian roulette.
I liked your VBIP.
We need to concentrate on what we do best.
Semaj0006 does great Amber Ale and his VBIP is good also

Yeastmeister weeellll all his beers are good. I believe that Gene and Steve
Are the only clubs members that I know that compete. The styles that they are most comfortable with should take up the first two slots.

The Baton Rouge club has over 30 years of competitions
Under their belts. Recent years they place 1st and best of show with there
Porter (Baltic Porter) and Brown ales. They also like IPA's, Stouts and
English Brown Ales.

Like Igor said they get to pick half of the styles, so they well pick a porter
And at least some sort of brown.

My vote goes
1.Wit (Gene just place with one)
2. Helles (for Steve)
3.Amercian Amber
4.IPA

I personally would like to brew all the styles.
The only way the club can make a good standing is by
Club participation. If you don’t have a way to lager I’m sure that someone
Does. I will be looking to fined a co-brewer. So team up with someone.

I not scared  well maybe just one thing. Waking up in the middle of the night to find your mother in law naked sitting in your favorite chair
Drinking your last homebrew

In the end, there can be only two.

If brewing a beer two or three weeks ahead of Competition or consuming is the way you do it by all means do it!.
I believe that's the way you brew your IPA's and
Pale's they are good, save me some

This is not that hard guy's.
Brew it ,drink it and have fun!

Remember every club gets to pick 1 style, So we need to decide which style the majority of us can enter and win

Two total. one per club? or is it each club submits two and then two are drawn from a hat? I forget, This whole thing is getting a little confused.

we are still negotiating with the redsticks and waiting to hear from the others, then the contest will be finalized
