Meeting Minutes
November 4, 2014

Meeting began at 6:00 PM.

Discussion: Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day, Sat. Nov. 1
Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day took place on Saturday, Nov. 1 in the side parking area of Marcellos. A Sweet Stout was brewed, using and all-grain, Brew in Bag kit provided by Marcello's. A new product now offered by Marcellos, a plastic conical fermenter, was provided by Marcello's for fermention of the wort, which will take place at Marcellos.

Bayou Circuit Homebrew Competitions
The Bayou State Circuit is a friendly series of homebrew competitions among Homebrewers and Homebrew Clubs in the state of Louisiana. The Bataille des Bieres, the annual DYS homebrew competition, will take place on March 7, 2015, as part of the Bayou Circuit.

Discussion: President Gene Nelson said our being part of the Bayou Circuit will disqualify our competition from having official BJCP sanctioned status, as some of the awards may only be won by Louisiana residents, or by homebrewers who live in another state or country, but are MEMBERS of a Louisiana homebrew club. It was decided that we would investigate this further. However, it was pointed out that anyone may enter homebrews in the competition, and be eligible to place and win awards such as Gold Medal, Best of Show, etc, and the awards that may only be won by Louisiana residents, or by homebrewers who live in another state or country, but are MEMBERS of a Louisiana homebrew club are SEPARATE, localized awards. Since no one is precuded from entering and placing in the contest, having BJCP sanctioned status should not be an issue.

Having the Battaille des Bieres as part of the Bayou State Circuit does not disqualify our competition from BJCP sanctioned status. Both Battaille des Bieres and the Bayou State Circuit are following the BJCP Sanctioned Competition Rules and Sanctioned Competition Requirements.
