Local Beer Events and Competitions
October 4-5, 2014 - Roberts Cove Germanfest | Roberts Cove - Homebrew Comp Entry Deadline: September 16, 2014.

Club Business
    * Gulf Brew asked DYS to participate in Gulf Brew again this year. It is being held downtown on October 18, 2014. We are looking for volunteers and beer donations (preferably in kegs). James and Ray have interests in brewing at Gulf Brew.

    * 2015 Bataille Des Bieres - Will be on March 7th, 2015 at the Blue Moon Saloon. The homebrew styles accepted for the competition includes: Category 4) Dark Lager, Category 5) Bock, Category 10) American Ale, and Category 12) Porter.

    * Library - Jesse Livingston - Bought some new books and include: Water: A Comprehensive Guide for Brewers , For The Love of Hops: The Practical Guide to Aroma, Bitterness and the Culture of Hops, and Yeast - The Practical Guide to Beer Fermentation.

    * Officer Positions - Elected Gene Nelson (President). Nominated Jim Boudreau (Secretary) and Jim Cox (VP) and will be voted on next meeting.

    * Organizing Tasting Tour of Lafayette @ TBD - Sounds like transportiion is being worked out. Any volunteers to contact and organize places to go (Greenroom, Parish, etc.)? Details can be found online at the following [url=404]tread[/url]

Other Business
Upcoming is the Roberts Cove Germanfest ( October 4-5, 2014), follow the provided link to more details. Associated with the 20th Annual Germanfest festival, the Roberts Cove Homebrew Competition is accepting entries in the BJCP German style categories (Altbier – 7A, 7C; Beliner Weisse – 17A; Bock-All categories – 5A, 5B, 5C, 5D; Dark Lagers– 4B, 4C; European Amber Lagers (Vienna & Oktoberfest) – 3A, 3B; Kölsch – 6C; Light Lagers (Munich Helles & Dortmunder Export) – 1D, 1E; Pilsner – 2A; Rauchbier (Smoked Flavor; identify the basic German style used) – 22A; Wheat & Rye Beers – 15A, 15B, 15C, 15D) and the entry Deadline is September 16, 2014. Judging will be conducted on September 19th-20th and/or September 26th-27th (depending on the number of entries) at the LA National Guard Armory, 140 Standard Mill Road, Crowley, LA. If you would like to attend, contact Germanfest for the details. In addition to the individual beer competition, they are asking that anyone who can provide a 2.5 gal. or 5 gal keg of their beer entered in the competition, they will provide samples of the home brewed to the participants of the Festival. For each sample, the Festival participant will record a score of 1 to 5 (1 being the top score). The voting will be completed by 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 5th; and the home brewer with the best score will receive the “Peoples’ Choice Award” of $100 and a special plaque. We hope to offer additional prizes for the better scores.
